Personal insolvency means being unable to pay your debts as they fall due. In Ireland, there are formal solutions under the Personal Insolvency Act — including PIAs for mortgage and secured debt, and DSAs for unsecured debts like credit cards and loans. These are managed by a licensed Personal Insolvency Practitioner (PIP), giving you a structured, legal path out of debt.
Falling behind on your mortgage doesn’t always mean repossession. As a Personal Insolvency Practitioner, I can negotiate directly with your creditors through a PIA. In many cases, repayments can be reduced, arrears restructured, or debt written down. With a court-approved arrangement in place, you’re protected from creditors taking your home.
If you’re in arrears, you may qualify for a PIA which restructures or reduces your mortgage debt, often letting you keep your home. The arrangement is approved by creditors and the court, so you get legal certainty and protection.
If unsecured debts like credit cards, personal loans, or overdrafts are unmanageable, a Debt Settlement Arrangement (DSA) may help. It usually lasts 5 years, makes repayments affordable, and any unpaid balance at the end is written off.
Start by contacting a licensed Personal Insolvency Practitioner (PIP). The process begins with a confidential consultation, where we review your finances. I then prepare a proposal to creditors. Once approved and confirmed by the court, you have a clear, protected path to get back on track.
