How Can We Help?

Our Services

If you are one of the many thousands of people in Ireland struggling to meet your debt repayments, Financial Solutions Ireland are here to help you.

Personal Insolvency Arrangement (PIA)

Protect your home. Regain control.

A PIA helps you deal with mortgage arrears and other debts by putting them into one affordable, manageable plan.

  • People with mortgage arrears who want to keep their home
  • Those with a mix of secured (e.g. mortgage) and unsecured debts
  • People unable to meet current repayments but who can afford a restructured plan

A Personal Insolvency Arrangement (PIA) is a solution for people with unsecured and secured debts. (Secured debts includes those with a mortgage.)

It is an agreement between you and your Banks that will aim to keep you in your family home where possible and may include debt write off

Debt Settlement Arrangement (DSA)

Clear your debts in a structured way.

A DSA lets you settle unsecured debts (like credit cards, loans, or overdrafts) over time, often with part of the debt written off at the end.

  • People with debts such as credit cards, loans, or overdrafts
  • Those who do not have mortgage debt to restructure
  • People who can afford regular payments once debts are reduced to a manageable level
  • Anyone looking for a formal, legally protected solution for unsecured debts

A Debt Settlement Arrangement (DSA) is a solution solution that allows for the write off of Unsecured debts (not mortgage related). There is no maximum amount. Debts such as personal loans, credit card loans, store cards, credit union loans and overdrafts could be included in a DSA.

Bankruptcy

A fresh start when other options aren’t possible.

Bankruptcy clears most debts and gives you a chance to rebuild, even if other arrangements aren’t suitable. We guide you through the process step by step.

  • People with high levels of debt where other solutions won’t work
  • Those with little or no realistic chance of repaying debts through an arrangement
  • Anyone seeking a full legal debt write-off and a fresh financial start

Sometimes the DSA or the PIA are just not the solutions for you. In that case we can look at Bankruptcy. This is a solution for people in debt over €20,000. Ownership of all your assets transfer to an Official Assignee. The Official Assignee will then sell all the assets and distribute the sale proceeds among your creditors. Remaining debt will be written off.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Understanding Personal Insolvency

    What is personal insolvency?

Personal insolvency means being unable to pay your debts as they fall due. In Ireland, there are formal solutions under the Personal Insolvency Act — including PIAs for mortgage and secured debt, and DSAs for unsecured debts like credit cards and loans. These are managed by a licensed Personal Insolvency Practitioner (PIP), giving you a structured, legal path out of debt.

I’m worried about losing my home, what can I do?

Falling behind on your mortgage doesn’t always mean repossession. As a Personal Insolvency Practitioner, I can negotiate directly with your creditors through a PIA. In many cases, repayments can be reduced, arrears restructured, or debt written down. With a court-approved arrangement in place, you’re protected from creditors taking your home.

What happens if I can’t pay my mortgage in Ireland?

If you’re in arrears, you may qualify for a PIA which restructures or reduces your mortgage debt, often letting you keep your home. The arrangement is approved by creditors and the court, so you get legal certainty and protection.

How do I deal with credit card debt I can’t pay in Ireland?

If unsecured debts like credit cards, personal loans, or overdrafts are unmanageable, a Debt Settlement Arrangement (DSA) may help. It usually lasts 5 years, makes repayments affordable, and any unpaid balance at the end is written off.

How do I apply for debt help in Ireland?

Start by contacting a licensed Personal Insolvency Practitioner (PIP). The process begins with a confidential consultation, where we review your finances. I then prepare a proposal to creditors. Once approved and confirmed by the court, you have a clear, protected path to get back on track.
